TEST DRIVE MEME
You wake, standing. A thick, muddy red dust coats your skin and clothes - it sticks to your tongue and blocks your vision. Inhale and it chokes you, exhale and your breath puffs out in front of your face in a transparent maroon cloud. It tastes of copper, tangy and harsh. Movement is difficult, every limb tingles and aches. Look to your left, your right. Evenly spaced in each direction stands another person indistinguishable in every way from the next. You're disoriented and lethargic, unable to grasp onto a single thought. A pinprick of light blooms ahead and grows steadily larger; a door has opened.
Hands grip your wrists, push at the small of your back and guide you out of the darkness into a room with four walls and a thin, sagging ceiling. The plaster is peeling, the air is musty, and the floor is slick. White plastic piping juts up from the center and curves into multiple spouts, clean water flowing in uneven streams. Those hands pull your clothes off and clear the dust from your body, redress you in handsewn jumpsuits.
A finger is pressed to your lips. Kind eyes meet your own and a single word is whispered - hush.
Led out of the room in a line, you’re taken down a short hallway and into another, much larger room. There’s a woman waiting for you there, a child hugging her leg, and a cloth bag in her hands. She reaches in and pulls out a device, passes one to each of you. Once finished, she begins to move both hands in graceful gestures, a language. One of the people who helped you lifts their device and the screen lights up, tracks the woman’s hands. Letters appear on the screen and you understand the device’s purpose. She tells you what she knows and it’s not much.
This world is haunted. Noise attracts them, so it is not allowed. Communication is through body language, soundless writing, and the device. She tells you that your feet must be light and your mouth never used. There is a community outside these doors, where you can survive together, but only if you agree to one thing: complete and total silence. You'll have time to talk it over. Acceptance allows you to journey outside. The ground is marked in pathways of sand, lining the paths to each building and everywhere in between. You notice that the locals hold their devices always, aloft and glance to it often. It will not vibrate or make a sound to signal a message.
Notices appear. The bulletin board feed lights up so you can read about the history. Rules. Guidelines. Feet on the sand and never anywhere else. To open a door you brush your fingers along the hinges - oiled and you may enter. If not, take the brush from the can sitting nearby and coat the metal with the dark liquid. You're to settle into your new home.
Take a peep
Content Warnings: Possible animal-thing death
Themes: Slice of life, it's like gremlins... kinda
On the first of April, small piles of dust with brightly colored eggs at the center will spring up over night. After a few hours the eggs will begin to hatch and out will come the smallest and brightest bunny-like creatures (the only notable differences from regular bunnies are the colors, size, and that they make no noise). They're friendly and immediately attach themselves (bond) to the first person to pick them up. One of the natives calls them "peeps" because they don't make a sound. All with unique personalities, the creatures can be found nibbling on the dust and needing no other form of food, and will shy away from any and all water sources.
If, however, any of them get wet - there will be a sudden and brief rain shower at noon - the creatures fur will turn black and they will begin attacking the others that didn't get wet. Stopping them is key, and the black creatures will either dash away from the community if given the chance or will need to be stopped.
OOC: All characters can keep a Peep! Any color! They are palm-sized and never grow larger than an adult hand.

[Richie was totally caught off guard when he was brought in, through the line, and handed this weird tech thing. It's so much fancier than those portable computers he's seen advertised on TV. He's afraid, and he doesn't like it. So what does he do? He retreats to his greatest defense mechanism: attention seeking. And he can do this to an audience?]
un: trashmouth
Hey what do you call a woman who loves small dicks?
[A pause as it takes him a while to stop silently chuckling while he types out the punchline.]
hopefully your girlfriend
[Now he awaits what he anticipates to be a groan and applause. He can't help it. If he can't mouth off, he can try this network business.]
[bunnies(?);] (cw: animal... tttthinnngs? and language)
[Richie walks along, his hands in his pockets, down the path, feet slipping while he adjusts to trudging on sand everywhere instead of the more sturdy paved streets of Derry. A bunny-like creature darts ahead of him and he stumbles a little to avoid stepping on it. Is that... a rabbit? Why is it blue?
And then he notices they're springing up out of those weird eggs that have been dotting the sides of the pathway.
They seem friendly enough. A couple stop to sniff his feet while he stands amazed at the rainbow of cuteness around him. He stoops down and scoops one up in his hands. They're adorable little things. He'd coo at it and ask it what the fuck it was if it was safe to do so, but he has to be quiiiiet, so... He just pets it with a grin on his face.]

Classic. Let's do this.
My teacher hates when I shorten his name to 'Dick'
...Especially since his name is Henry.

He likes her already. Bring it on. It takes him a while to type it all out, but it eventually gets to her.]
My girlfriend just caught me blowdrying my penis and asked what was I doing. Apparently "heating your dinner" was not the right answer

In her head, she's picturing someone her age who is just as juvenile as she can be. ]
Nice.
How do you get 'Dick' out of 'Richard'?
You ask nicely.

He could probably just ask. But he's got an entire fortress of emotions going on that he doesn't even want to begin to deal with so naturally he decides to reply to this network post in turn:)
you call her Richie Tozier.

Okay first of all, you're fucking disgusting
Second of all my mom hasnt touched a dick in like years probably

Well, he points at it, and makes the John Cleese Tim-the-Enchanter gesture from Holy Grail, for big gnashing teeth, snapping his own silently to emphasize the point. Look the fuck out. Gnash gnash gnash.]

He looks down at the creature and back up to this ridiculous stranger. He silently scoffs and mouths the words:]
Yeah right.

Bev, is that you?
bunnies ofc ofc
-- nope, wait, not Mike. Wrong hairstyle, wrong height, the glasses, the posture and everything. Perhaps it's weird that Will knows Mike well enough to recognize his posture, but...shut up.
Either way, it takes him a moment to remember, having only met Richie briefly, but the glasses eventually trigger the memory. So he sidles a little closer, one teensy-tiny blue bunny nestled up against his chest and...waves? Is this how you Normal Youth Interaction? Hopefully.]

Richie pats his own bunny, points at the boy's, and gives him a thumbs up. Pretty cute, aren't they?]

It seems weird even to her. Something Otherworldy tells her not to trust it because why should she trust anything? She notes the boy holding it, though and shrugs her shoulder.
Then taps him on the shoulder to offer him a device to read:]
Are we sure those aren't killer bunnies luring us into their cuteness? I mean REALLY, REALLY sure?
