TEST DRIVE MEME
You wake, standing. A thick, muddy red dust coats your skin and clothes - it sticks to your tongue and blocks your vision. Inhale and it chokes you, exhale and your breath puffs out in front of your face in a transparent maroon cloud. It tastes of copper, tangy and harsh. Movement is difficult, every limb tingles and aches. Look to your left, your right. Evenly spaced in each direction stands another person indistinguishable in every way from the next. You're disoriented and lethargic, unable to grasp onto a single thought. A pinprick of light blooms ahead and grows steadily larger; a door has opened.
Hands grip your wrists, push at the small of your back and guide you out of the darkness into a room with four walls and a thin, sagging ceiling. The plaster is peeling, the air is musty, and the floor is slick. White plastic piping juts up from the center and curves into multiple spouts, clean water flowing in uneven streams. Those hands pull your clothes off and clear the dust from your body, redress you in handsewn jumpsuits.
A finger is pressed to your lips. Kind eyes meet your own and a single word is whispered - hush.
Led out of the room in a line, you’re taken down a short hallway and into another, much larger room. There’s a woman waiting for you there, a child hugging her leg, and a cloth bag in her hands. She reaches in and pulls out a device, passes one to each of you. Once finished, she begins to move both hands in graceful gestures, a language. One of the people who helped you lifts their device and the screen lights up, tracks the woman’s hands. Letters appear on the screen and you understand the device’s purpose. She tells you what she knows and it’s not much.
This world is haunted. Noise attracts them, so it is not allowed. Communication is through body language, soundless writing, and the device. She tells you that your feet must be light and your mouth never used. There is a community outside these doors, where you can survive together, but only if you agree to one thing: complete and total silence. You'll have time to talk it over. Acceptance allows you to journey outside. The ground is marked in pathways of sand, lining the paths to each building and everywhere in between. You notice that the locals hold their devices always, aloft and glance to it often. It will not vibrate or make a sound to signal a message.
Notices appear. The bulletin board feed lights up so you can read about the history. Rules. Guidelines. Feet on the sand and never anywhere else. To open a door you brush your fingers along the hinges - oiled and you may enter. If not, take the brush from the can sitting nearby and coat the metal with the dark liquid. You're to settle into your new home.
Take a peep
Content Warnings: Possible animal-thing death
Themes: Slice of life, it's like gremlins... kinda
On the first of April, small piles of dust with brightly colored eggs at the center will spring up over night. After a few hours the eggs will begin to hatch and out will come the smallest and brightest bunny-like creatures (the only notable differences from regular bunnies are the colors, size, and that they make no noise). They're friendly and immediately attach themselves (bond) to the first person to pick them up. One of the natives calls them "peeps" because they don't make a sound. All with unique personalities, the creatures can be found nibbling on the dust and needing no other form of food, and will shy away from any and all water sources.
If, however, any of them get wet - there will be a sudden and brief rain shower at noon - the creatures fur will turn black and they will begin attacking the others that didn't get wet. Stopping them is key, and the black creatures will either dash away from the community if given the chance or will need to be stopped.
OOC: All characters can keep a Peep! Any color! They are palm-sized and never grow larger than an adult hand.

ready 2 ruin ur life
He's costume-less, webshooter-less, and sound-less, all of which are very un-Spider-Man-like things. Here, he's just plain ol' Parker, and not for the first time, he finds himself not actually all that jazzed with the idea. The past couple years have been something of a painful, awful, terrifying time learning how to become a superhero but now that he's comfortable enough with it ... being without it doesn't feel right.
Probably not the time or the place to have anxiety attacks over his superhero alter-ego, however, so Peter takes a breath and - definitely looks in Tony's direction, right around the time he spots the message on his screen.
The guy looks strangely familiar. Like someone who probably belongs on the cover of TIME or Forbes or GQ magazine.
It'll come to him in a minute ... ]
man starbucks is the last thing i'd expect to see here
rude
now that he's forced himself to calm down and he's been introduced to the network, t has spared little to no time testing if he can directly connect to it with his mind. to say the least, it worked and it brought almost instantaneous relief.
that ugly, little episode earlier had more to do with the sudden change of environment and an unsettling concern that there is something wrong with the one thing that's keeping him alive right now — extremis. but seeing how it's just an interference with the suit itself (which he's determined to resolve later), t can relax. for the time being. as soon as he gets a hand on that coffee. ]
i'll take any run of the mill coffee at this rate
[ he isn't opposed to the crappy stuff. it'll actually bring him more comfort than any expensive brands can offer. ]
what are your thoughts on this place so far?
no subject
mostly i have no idea what's going on
how i really got here
how to get back
and why we can't make any sound at all
[ Peter texts furiously.
He's been hanging around this room for the last little while, wishing he had more on him than this jumpsuit and a phone, wondering where his spider-suit might be, and how vulnerable he feels without it and the webshooters. ]
you know
the basic stuff
no subject
but don't take my word for it
[ he is going to retain a bit of skepticism until he gets to see one of these things for himself. should be fun. ]
there has to be an explanation for why we've been brought here
we're not going to find the answers in this room though
[ he nods his head towards the door. ] ready to see what's on the other side yet?
no subject
i mean
no
but
you're right ... i'm not gonna find answers in this room
[ Peter stares back towards the exit of this room and mentally braces himself for whatever lies on the other side. He's imagining gigantic spiky monsters, a lot of punching, and just about every other nightmare rolled up into one world. ]
its probably too much to hope its just normal new york city beyond these doors
and maybe ashton kutcher telling us we got punk'd right?
if ashton kutcher is waiting outside those doors i'm gonna punch him so hard
no subject
which part?
[ he isn't looking forward to whatever's beyond this room either, but it's still better than staying in here with no real clue what he's gotten himself in. so he's going to do them both the favor and take the lead, pushing the exit wide open.
here goes... ]
no subject
what about you?
[ It's asked right before the other man heads toward the door, prepared to open it wide and shatter any possible hopes and dreams that this is all probably just some kind of ridiculous nightmare he's about to wake up from.
Peter does the only thing he can do (after all, he's not going to leave this guy to fend for himself in whatever Unknown awaits) - he follows. ]
no subject
[ it's... admittedly a tad anticlimactic.
tony didn't know what to expect and it really isn't too far off from what he had imagined, but it's just a more decrepit-looking town with a lot of sand. ]
i'm tony btw [ guess it's time to scope the area out ]
no subject
that's cool
i dont know why but i kinda guessed i just wouldn't meet anyone from home here so its kind of a relief to hear
[ Yes, Peter is continuing to talk about New York because talking about New York is a healthy enough coping mechanism in the face of this unrecognizable, unfamiliar, stranger town. ]
hi tony
i'm peter
do you have any idea where we're supposed to go next?
no subject
he's from queens too
actually, you kinda remind me of h
[ wait. wait, tony.
his eyes snaps over to the brunet beside him, widening in slight disbelief. it couldn't be. ]
your last name wouldn't happen to be parker, would it?
[ sorry, peter. he's a little too distracted now to answer your question. ]
no subject
yeah??
wait
why?
do you know me?
how do you know me?
[ There's a kind of brief moment of panic that flashes in his eyes before he wills himself to calm down and play it cool.
Well, cool-ish.
It's hard to freak out when you have to be silent about it and you're furiously hitting keys on your phone-screen. ]
who are you?
no subject
it really is peter — or at least an alternate of him. a much younger alternate of him. ]
pete! [ he extends his hand out to him as a delighted smile spreads across his face. ] tony stark. nice to meet you.
no subject
[ Peter's familiarity with Tony Stark goes as far as reading about the guy in the paper, seeing him in television interviews, some YouTube stuff.
He's a celebrity superhero back in his world, and one he hasn't yet had the opportunity to meet while crusading in costume.
He looks different now, which only means that he's gotta be from a world like his but not quite (he's starting to get that that's a common theme around here), but now that he's got a name to the face ... he's starting to see the similarities. ]
if you're the same tony stark i've heard about
wow man it's uh
kind of an honour to meet you
